Blue Paper Mache Cake

I made this cake for my niece's 10th birthday. My daughters, Athena and Sophia, helped decorate since it's for their cousin. We placed stripes  of blue food coloring into the icing bags. And we used a Wilton 2D  tip. The white icing picks up some of the blue color to create a very  pretty pattern.  It's easy for kids to apply the icing. A simple squeeze and pull creates a pretty fluff of blue and white. The cake  turned out looking very fluffy and I think very pretty!

  1. How do you get the cake to not fall when you move it? Is there icing on the base?

  2. The bottom cake has support dowels going through it all the way to the base. I can't recall now if I put a dowel from the top cake all the way through. I probably did not for this cake, but I typically do for multi-layered cakes.

  4. Beautiful creation! What kind of cake board do you use? I like the height that you get being able to use such a wide band of ribbon.
